After years of availability on its iOS and Android apps, Google Maps has finally introduced hazard and delay reporting for CarPlay users. This feature, which allows drivers to report incidents such as lane closures and accidents, has been a valuable tool for Apple Maps users since 2021 and for Google Maps on iPhone since 2019. However, until now, iPhone users connected to CarPlay could only view warnings reported by others and could not submit their own reports.
According to 9to5Google, the incident reporting feature is now rolling out to CarPlay users, allowing them to actively contribute to real-time traffic updates. The rollout is still in progress, and it is not clear how long it will take to reach all users. Interestingly, this feature is not yet available when Google Maps is connected to Android Auto.
When the feature becomes available, drivers will see a hazard sign icon on their screens. Tapping this icon will bring up quick controls for reporting common issues, such as crashes, objects on the road, construction zones, and speed traps.
The addition of this reporting feature follows Google's recent update of adding a speedometer to Google Maps on iOS, a feature that has been available on Android for about five years. This enhancement aims to provide drivers with more comprehensive tools for a safer and more efficient driving experience.
