After discontinuing support for the third-generation Apple TV app, Netflix has recently announced that it will no longer provide updates for certain older iPhones and iPads, specifically those running iOS 16. This means that devices such as the iPhone X and the first-generation iPad Pro, which cannot be updated to iOS 17, will no longer be able to run the latest version of Netflix.

The latest Netflix app update for iOS now alerts users: “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later.” Although users still running iOS 16 can temporarily ignore this alert and continue using Netflix, the app may stop working in the future. App updates not only introduce new features but also come with bug fixes and security patches.
The following devices are unable to update to iOS 17 or later:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
- iPad 5 (2017)
- First-generation iPad Pro
If you own one of these devices and are a Netflix user, it might be a good time to consider upgrading to a newer phone or tablet.
