Apple has decided to pause the development of the second-generation Vision Pro headset to concentrate on creating a more affordable version of the device. This shift in strategy comes in response to mixed reviews and lower-than-expected sales of the Vision Pro, which was praised for its advanced features but criticized for its high price ($3,499) and significant weight.

The new focus is on a budget-friendly model, codenamed "N109," targeting a price range of $1,500 to $2,500. This upcoming headset aims to retain the high-resolution displays of the Vision Pro while reducing other features and components to lower costs and make the device lighter and more accessible. The release date for this cheaper model is now expected around the end of 2025.

Apple's decision reflects a broader adjustment in its AR/VR strategy, as the company aims to make its technology more competitive and accessible to a wider audience. The development of the more affordable Vision headset began in 2022, and Apple is working to balance cost reduction without compromising too much on the user experience.
